Many Paths Lead to Gallaudet

There’s no one way to be deaf, and there’s no standard background for Gallaudet students.

We have team captains from Alabama, valedictorians from California, and CODAs from Michigan. We have third-generation legacy students from deaf families and emerging signers who were the only deaf student in their entire hometown.

And Gallaudet is right for all of them

Academic Excellence For Every Passion

Students at Gallaudet gain access to world-class bachelor’s programs that span every industry and interest.

The best part? Our 500+ deaf and hard of hearing faculty and staff members remove all communication barriers – so you can focus on what’s important: acquiring the skills you need to excel after graduation.

Core Curriculum

Gallaudet’s one-of-a-kind Core Curriculum prepares undergraduate students to become well-rounded, career-ready critical thinkers who participate and thrive at the highest levels of society.

The Core Curriculum includes both required and elective courses. The required courses provide a foundational learning experience, and the elective courses allow students the freedom to determine and follow their own interests. Together, these learning opportunities shape our students as global citizens who will positively impact the world.

Clubs and Organizations: Find Your Fit

Joining a student club is the turbo button for making fast friends on campus. (Sorry, we have Esports club on the brain!)

Unlike large universities where students have to wait their turn,

Gallaudet students can become involved in one (or two or five!) student organizations on day one.

Whether you’re into sustainability or student media – video production or journalism — student government or intramural sports — Black Student Union or Bison With Attitude — we’re confident you’ll find your fit.

Thriving in the Nation’s Capital

Gallaudet is situated in a vibrant, growing neighborhood in Washington, D.C.

Access and opportunity are right outside your door in dynamic D.C. – known as one of the world’s most deaf-friendly cities.

Across the District and the greater metropolitan area, Gallaudet students and alumni are making an indelible impact through internships and in their careers. Dozens of Gallaudet alumni are effecting policy changes to advance our deaf community in Congressional offices, advocacy organizations, and think tanks.

Browse shops and restaurants at the Union Market District, steps from campus, or explore H Street‘s deaf-friendly options like Signing Starbucks.

Experience a night out at the theater with ASL-interpreted and captioned performances available from several theatre companies in the metropolitan area.

Get involved with a national advocacy organization like the DC Office of Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing, or The National Association of the Deaf.

Watch captioned videos and movies and take ASL-interpreted tours at Smithsonian Institution museums.
All of the area’s major league sports teams have live captioning on screen so you can easily root for your favorite team!
Spend an entertaining evening at an ASL Open Mic at Busboys & Poets. Recite a poem, perform a song or skit, or crack up the audience with jokes.
